Thalia
Ariadna Thalía Sodi Miranda (Spanish pronunciation: [aˈɾjaðna taˈli.a ˈsoði miˈɾanda]; born 26 August 1971) is a Mexican singer, songwriter and actress. Known for her influence on the Latin entertainment industry, she is dubbed the "Queen of Latin Pop" and the "Queen of Telenovelas". Thalía is considered one of the greatest Latin music artists of all time by Billboard and as Latin pop icon.
Thalía began her career at age 9 briefly in the group Din-Din, and rose to fame as a member of Timbiriche in the late 80s, one of the most influential Mexican pop groups of its time. Her solo career began with Thalía (1990), Mundo de Cristal (1991) and Love (1992) with great success in Mexico. Thalía achieved international success with the best-selling Latin albums En Éxtasis (1995), Amor a la Mexicana (1997) and Arrasando (2000). In the following years, she continued her success with Thalía (2002), her crossover album Thalía (2003), El Sexto Sentido (2006) and her live album Primera Fila (2009), one of the best-selling albums in Mexico.
Her acting career in telenovelas developed alongside her musical career; Thalía co-starred Quinceañera (1987) and got her first leading role in Luz y Sombra (1989). She gained worldwide recognition with the aforementioned "María Trilogy", consisting of María Mercedes (1993), Marimar (1994), and María la del Barrio (1996), as well as Rosalinda (1999). According to UNICEF, her telenovelas aired in over 180 countries and reached an estimated audience of 2 billion people. She is the highest-paid actress in Televisa's history, and Billboard her the most recognized star of the telenovela genre in the world.
She is one of the best-selling Latin music artists of all time, with over 25 million records sold worldwide. Her accolades include six Billboard Latin Music Awards, eight Lo Nuestro Awards, the Latin Recording Academy's President's Merit Award, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Outside of her entertainment career, Thalía has also achieved success with a fashion brand through a partnership with Macy's. She has hosted a nationally syndicated radio show and authored four books, including a memoir. She has also been involved in humanitarian causes, serving as a UNICEF Mexico Goodwill Ambassador since 2016.
