BUCKINGHAM
Buckingham ( BUK-ing-əm) is a market town in north Buckinghamshire, England, close to the borders with Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire. It had a population of 12,890 at the 2011 Census. The town lies approximately 12 miles (19 km) west of Milton Keynes, 19 miles (31 km) south-east of Banbury and 24 miles (39 km) north-east of Oxford.
The town was the county town of Buckinghamshire from the 10th century, when it was made the capital of the newly-formed shire of Buckingham, until Aylesbury took over this role in the 18th century. Britain's first private university, the University of Buckingham, is based here.
